You just have to walk in its center between narrow alleys and sumptuous buildings to understand that Martina Franca is the other capital of the Baroque.There lies all the beauty of the largest city in the Itria valley, both dynamic and attached to its ancient traditions.

You can admire the noble palaces with their wrought iron balconies, the rich portals with their coats of arms, the monumental churches.Here, each corner speaks of art and history and surprises you with elegant details, arches, secret gardens and squares which offer spectacular perspectives, like Piazza Plebiscita, where the facade of the Basilica of San Martino with itshigh relief of Saint Martin.

Perched on a hill, the beautiful Locorotondo evokes a fairy tale, it owes its name (round place) to the circular plan of its town, among the most beautiful in Italy, The town with its staircase vines dominates the rest of the village andthe whole valley of ltria.Among the picturesque alleys, surrounded by the white walls of the houses, note the Cummerse, ancient habitats with a rectangular plan and sloping roofs made of chianchette - flat stone tiles.

Elected one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, with its medieval center which evokes an oriental village, with its whitewashed houses its alleys, its small stairs.its squares and long flowered balconies. At the entrance to the historic center stands the Norman-Swabian Tower, while piazza Vittorio Emanuele is the place for an aperitif with a breathtaking view from the belvedere.

For dinner, stop in one of the "fornelli", adjoining the butcher's shops and taste the extraordinary bombette, thin slices of veal, simple or stuffed with caciocavallo, rolled up and served on a skewer.

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is famous for its impressive trulli district, nearly 1,500 dwellings grouped in the old town on two small buttes facing each other. The Rione Monti, the tourist area, where the Sant'Antonio church stands. The Rione Aia Piccola, occupied by the village elders, houses the Trullo Sovrano, the only two-level trullo.

Here, we celebrate the oldest carnival in Europe and the longest in Italy: from December 26 to Mardi Gras, according to legend it all started in 1394, when the relics of Santo Stefano arrived from Monopoli in the city. The Carnival, with gigantic allegorical floats, papier-mâché masks, nocturnal parades, is an opportunity to get to know the historic center better, made up of winding alleys and courtyards, where buildings of different styles mix. In Plebiscito square, admire the austere Romanesque-style Church of S. Pietro Apostolo, which faces the Palazzo del Bali.

Polignano a Mare

Polignano a Mare is the town of Domenico Modugno who wrote the title "volare" and the locals, grateful and dedicated a statue to him on the seafront. The labyrinth of alleys will take you to one of the three panoramic terraces at thebreathtaking view. The beautifully preserved historic center is directly on the sea. Further on, one of the locals' favorite places, the beach framed by two cliffs from which children and adolescents dive all day. Polignano is also famous for its homemade ice cream. Indulge.

If the palaces and the churches of the historic center attract crowd, Lecce knew how to protect itself from a destiny of city-museum. It charms at least as much with its art of living as with the joyful animation of its streets and terraces. Must.

Nestled on an island, the historic center is surrounded by the Sant'Agata cathedral. Stroll along the ancient ramparts surrounding the Città and push the door of the Purità church, which contains an interior decorated with sumptuous stucco.

Puglia and the Itria Valley

Its panorama is magical and to fully enjoy it you have to cross villages like Alberobello. The fascinating plain of Fasano. covered with centuries-old olive trees and very close to the sea, is rich in very beautiful masseries transformed into holiday resorts, with golf courses and relaxing treatments, close to Egnazia, one of the most important archaeological sites of Italy. Between Torre San Leonardo and Torre Canne, you will meet the Regional Park of Coastal Dunes, a surprising territory that stretches over 1100 ha: from the very beautiful beach to the large agricultural expanses of secular olive trees. Ostuni, the white city, is a series of arches, towers, buildings, courtyards, alleys, noble palaces and shops. On the contrary, Ceglie Messapica and Carovigno, are citadels of taste, with their internationally renowned restaurants and their chefs who have received numerous distinctions.
